Fine particle filter

Normatherm® is focussing today on the technology of the future.

Fine particle filter All Normatherm ® insert boilers currently comply with the relevant European standards.

The addition of the Zumikron fine particle filter will bring about a considerable reduction of emissions, ensuring that we are not only ready for the future but are able to make a significant contribution to reducing the emission of fine particles right now.

Installation:

Installation of the fine particle filter
  1. The filter insert with electrodes and temperature sensor is mounted on the flue pipe as a compact unit and the electrodes are installed in the middle of the flue pipe through a special opening.

  2. A service duct is used for the cable and in certain applications (fireplace inserts) for the provision of purge air.

  3. The control unit supplies the electrode with the optimal high voltage for the system and turns the unit on or off according to the flue gas temperature.

All the system components are flush-mounted in the insert boiler assembly and only visible to the user via the front plate of the control unit. Access to the filter unit must be made possible by means of an inspection door, because the filter unit must be removed every time the flue is cleaned.

Mode of operation:

  1. If the voltage on the electrode in the middle of the flue gas flow is high enough, an ionisation process takes place. Charged particles, so called charge carriers and gas ions, are produced in the flue gases.

  2. The gas ions attach themselves to the fine particulates, which then become charged. The particles charged in this way are attracted to the inner wall of the flue pipe due to electrostatic forces and are deposited there. The charge on the particle is neutralised as it is deposited. Nevertheless, the particles adhere to the flue pipe due to mechanical interlocking.
